Geelong overcame a sluggish start to thump Fremantle by 31 points in their AFL practice match at Fremantle Oval on Saturday. The Dockers led by 30 points midway through the second quarter before Geelong's decorated squad clicked into gear, slamming through 12 of the next 13 goals to set up the 16.12 (96) to 10.5 (65) win. Geelong entered the match missing only Joel Corey, Max Rooke and the retired Tom Harley from last year's premiership side.

GEELONG has named its strongest possible line-up for Saturday's practice match against Fremantle. After resting senior players throughout the first three weeks of the pre-season series, the Cats have brought all their stars in for the final game before the season opener against Essendon on March 26. Only Joel Corey and Max Rooke, both suffering knee injuries, are the senior players left out of the squad to travel to Perth on the weekend.

Fremantle's chance of reaching their first ever NAB Cup final – and possibly hosting it in Perth – has been given a huge boost with the news Nick Riewoldt and Brendan Goddard won't play for St Kilda. Announcing their 29-man squad for Saturday night's clash at Etihad Stadium, skipper Riewoldt and key playmaker Goddard will both be rested after successive one-point victories. Other Saints changes will sees Tom Lynch, Will Johnson and rookie Leigh Fisher given their chance.

North Melbourne should roll into this match with a fair amount of confidence after downing 2009 premiers Geelong in the opening round of the NAB Cup. The Kangaroos were publically unmoved by the 14-point win, and while it was indeed the first game of the pre-season and the Cats were minus a handful of stars, there were plenty of positives for new coach Brad Scott in his first game at the helm. Most notably, the victory was powered by up-and-coming youngsters Liam Anthony, Matt Campbell, Sam Wright, Jack Zi

St Kilda has named a strong squad for Saturday night's NAB Cup quarter-final against Sydney, with Lenny Hayes, Nick Dal Santo and Jason Gram among the inclusions. Fresh from falling over the line by a point last week against Collingwood, thanks to Adam Schneider's goal in the final minute, the Saints have included Hayes, Dal Santo, Gram, Steven Baker, Steven King and Sean Dempster with Jack Steven and Leigh Fisher making way. The Swans meanwhile have named forward Ryan O'Keefe and big men Jesse White

Fremantle's forward line displayed potential while Melbourne suffered the fumbles in the Dockers' 97-50 NAB Cup win in front of 11,031 fans at Subiaco Oval on Sunday. Michael Johnson and Matthew Pavlich booted three goals apiece while goalsneaks Hayden Ballantyne and Des Headland chipped in with two each as the Demons were made to pay for a slow start in the 1.13.10 (97) to 2.4.8 (50) result. Fremantle's win sets up a quarterfinal against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium next Sunday after the Kangaro
